Artist's Comments

A photo of my late grandma Ehlers, circa World War II. I recently acquired many sheets worth of scanned photos, specifically of my grandfather's time in the service during WWII, and would like to restore many more of them to some kind of former glory. This is the best I can do with what I currently know.

I realize this may belong in the photomanipulation section of the digital art category, but I felt it would be overlooked there and that the photography community may be able to better critique and dish out pointers on digital restoration. My process here was comprised mostly of using the Healing Brush and Clone Stamp tools in Photoshop 7.0 after adjusting brightness/contrast and doing a decent amount of pixel by pixel editing with the Pencil tool. The coloring definitely needs work and it may be a little too dark overall.

Hmm...I happen to have a relative around that time period that looks a LOT like the woman in this picture. That, and I'm an Ehlers, too ^_^ I'll have to ask my dad about this one...

The restoration looks beautiful, much like the photo would before all of the wear and tear. Personally, I don't feel like this should go in the photomanip category.
